The Clatterin Brig Restaurant is in the most beautiful location, at the bottom of the Cairn o’Mount, with amazing views of the glen. The tea room has a wall of windows allowing you to look down onto the burn and the bridges crossing it.
Tea Cup Lunch
We came for lunch and I had the Tea Cup Lunch – I mean come on, that name is right up my alley! They offer light lunches and main meals on their menu. The Tea Cup Lunch consisted of a tea cup of soup, half a sandwich, coffee or tea and a traybake. The soup of the day was tomato, roast red pepper and chilli. It had a bit of a kick to it and was so warming – perfect for this cold May we’ve been having. I had an egg mayo, gluten free roll alongside it, which was also served with a side salad.
Clatterin Brig Cakes!
There’s a large selection of traybakes and sponge cakes and loads of gluten free and dairy free options. There’s also a nice selection of tea in jars on top of their cake counter. Barry and I shared a GF and DF lemon drizzle cake and it was perfectly lemony and fluffy.
Clatterin Brig has two carparks, a high and a low. The high one is level with the restaurant, but if you park in the low one, there’s a bridge to cross and steps up to the restaurant.
It is well worth the drive afterwards to the top of the Cairn o’Mount. Whilst it’s a very winding and steep journey, the view from the top is amazing. There’s a car park and an information board pointing out all the Angus and Aberdeenshire towns you can see.
