I travelled around Italy for 5 weeks and fell in love with the architecture. The detail on the doors is so beautiful, including the door knobs, the iron trim, the wooden panels and the surrounding windows. Check out some of my favourites below.
Imagine coming home to one of these grand wooden doors as the entry into your flat.
The Duomo in Florence is absolutely stunning. Fun fact that my Airbnb host told me – the cross and large gilded ball on top of the Duomo was struck by lightning and fell off in 1601 and all the people of Florence thought Satan had done it. When it was put back up, they put the ashes of a priest in with it to add protection and its been up there ever since! There is a marker on the street where the large ball hit the ground.
I have a thing about doors, windows and facades in general, so Italy was a treat (and we haven’t even spoken about the gelato!)
The stonework door frames are stunning. It’s amazing that they have survived the years, as some of them are obviously very old – I mean, check out the Pompeii doorway still standing!
I hope you enjoyed this gallery of Italian doors. Please let me know what you think and if you’d like to see more!
